Error when accessing Remote Web Workplace (RWW) on SBS2008 using IE10

Upgrading to Internet Explorer 10 is something that I highly recommend to my clients. It’s Microsoft’s latest browser and it’s one of the best improvements in a browser that I’ve seen from Microsoft. It’s compatibility with HTML5 is superior than that of Chrome and Safari as of this writing.

Some of my clients called me and asked why they could not longer connect to the Remote Web Workplace on SBS2008. There’s a couple errors that I received calls about. One of them was in regards to ActiveX controls. This is a simple fix. In the first popup box there will be a permissions window asking to allow ActiveX controls for the site. Accept the security warning and continue. The next error is a bit more complicated and reads “the wizard cannot configure remote desktop settings. Make sure that the client version of remote desktop protocol (RDP) 6.0 or later is installed on this computer”.

To fix this you need to do the following:

1 – Open internet explorer 10
2 – Hit the Alt Key
3 – Choose the tools menu
4 – Choose Compatibility View Settings
5 – Add yourdomain.com to the “add this website” box and select add
6 – Restart Internet explorer

These steps are to be completed on your home computer, not your office computer.
